Colour Me Pretty!

Colours Appointment:
We had our colours appointment on the 20th March 2012 straight after our Tender appointment (Tip: try and put all appointments together rather than wasting so much annual leave as it all happens on weekdays....argh so annoying! hahaha)

So we started at the Home Options Gallery in Bella Vista with our bubbly colour consultant Josie.

We had to firstly pick the colours to the exterior of our home. This part was the easy part as we already knew what external colours we wanted to use after several thousand drive-by's (no shot-guns involved) of a house we loved in the same estate.

I must say that after gawking at it so many times and parking my car outside their house that many times, we were worried the cops might rock up to tell us to stop stalking them :P. But as it turns out even my noisy exhaust didn't deter them from showing us through their house and their colour scheme.

The Georges Fair neighbourhood seems like a really friendly place. Turns our my old high school teacher has also built the same house in the estate and ALSO took us for a tour of their house. How AWESOME is that! it makes such a big difference walking through what you will build as opposed to trying to imagine how the colours and design will turn out. Thanks heaps!

After much too-ing and fro-ing we finally agreed (the word "agreed" is very loose term to use) on our colour scheme below:

  2. Cost us around $900 to upgrade to the Gravel bricks. It was from the C range of Bricks but Eden Brae gave us a brochure that says B......so they prob charged me more. Off white mortar was $250. Are you building at Georges Fair too? becasue they will prob say prices will vary from site to site blah blah lol :P

  3. Yeah we are building at Georges Fair as well also with Eden Brae a Cremorne 37.

Your blog has been great to give us the heaps up before heading off to the Home Options Gallery. We have had the 1st appointment & off for the 2nd one in the couple of weeks.

Curious regarding the cost on just getting the downlight wiring, what did they quote u?

  4. Nice! thats a pretty big house :) Glad your finding our blog useful :) When we went to electricals they just used their system which has all their standard pricing.....$67 bucks for each bayonet fitting but i think they quoted me $112-$120 for each LED down light (includes ring, wiring, switch and LED bulb) but i am just getting them to instal the bayonet where i want to LED lights and i will get a LED down light drill kit and install them myself as all the wiring is in place already. I am doing downlights throughout so the quote for downlights was >$10k which is a little steep :P

  6. Depends in colour category. Also the Cremorme 37 is alot bigger so more bricks = higher costs. We paid I think 900 for our upgrade from the top of my head.

  7. Hi there

My name is Maria and I’m a graduate researcher at Curtin University. I’m doing a study on masterplanned estates and social sustainability and would like to see if you could please participate in this study. Your participation will only take a short amount of time but will contribute tremendously to my study. If needed, I can email you a copy of this study's research approval from my University, an information sheet and consent form. The questions/answers will only take you a short amount of time.

The study is in relation to Social Sustainability and the Masterplanned Estate.

The following definition should inform your answers below: "Social sustainability is having power and control over what affects my surroundings and the way I feel about my place, my home. I have ways to be heard and I can see that my desires are realised in what I want to make."

    The questions are as follows:

    1. Have you built/lived in a Masterplanned Estate previously? Please indicate if this is your first/second/third/etc time. Please indicate also the estate in which you had built or are building.

    2. What are your reasons for choosing to build or in a Masterplanned Estate? Reasons could be lifestyle, price, aesthetics, community life, location, better for children, closer to family or friends, closer to work, other reasons (please indicate). Please elaborate and provide examples, if possible.

    3. When buying your block of land from the sales representative, what were you told in terms of the social sustainability of the Estate? Did this affect your choice to buy land in the Estate?

    4. Could you detail your first experience with meeting the land sales representative? Did you discuss aspects of social sustainability in your initial discussions with them? Please refer to the definition of social sustainability above, as you understand it.

    5. When buying your house plan from the home sales representative, what were you told in terms of the social sustainability of the Estate, if it was discussed? Did this affect your choice to build in the Estate?

    6. Could you detail your first experience with meeting the home sales representative? Did you discuss aspects of social sustainability in your initial discussions with them? Please refer to the definition of social sustainability above, as you understand it.

    7. Did you engage in any aspect of social media with regards to building in an Estate, ie join facebook groups, start a blog to document the build, join forums specifically for people who are within the estate, speak to others that you know who are building, etc. Please elaborate.

    8. What does social sustainability mean to you and what impact (if any) did it have on your choice to build/live in a Masterplanned Estate?
